Milestone session FAQ
What is a Milestone session?
Milestone sessions are typically done anytime during baby’s first year (although it can include toddler and preschool-age years). This can include first smiles or tummy time (3-5 months), sitting unassisted (6-8 months), or crawling/standing (9-12 months) or anytime in between.
Can we schedule the session around my baby’s nap time?

Absolutely – my goal is to capture photos of a happy baby! Since all babies are different, it’s hard to tell how they will react during the photo session and I cannot guarantee any specific poses or smiles. However, we will do our best to choose a time when they are typically the happiest – after a nap and with a full belly!

Avoid replacing nap time with a nap in the car on the way to the session. Babies who take their nap in the car, are often woken up mid-nap and are not happy. Or they don’t fall asleep in the car like they normally do. I highly suggest doing baby’s normal nap time at home and then coming straight to the session. Schedule the best time of day between 10am-2pm that your baby is the happiest!
Please also keep in mind vaccination appointments; try not to schedule a photo session a day or two after these to avoid fussiness or soreness.
WHAT TO WEAR
I just need your baby! I have a variety of props including baskets, bowls, crates, stools, fur layers, and blankets which can be used to style the session with a few different setups (the prop selection will vary based on the age of your child). However, you also have the option to bring an outfit that you would like photographed. Feel free to bring a comfort item that your baby loves and that you would not mind being in the photo, if necessary.
Avoid bringing toys or “lovies” that you do not want photographed. Once they see their favorite toy, it will be difficult to capture images without it.

I typically ask that you send me some quick photos of the outfits/ toys you plan to bring in the week leading up to your session. That way I can have some setups planned in my head.
My baby has STRANGER ANXIETY. How do we deal with that?
I’ve found that babies as young as 6 months can start to feel uneasy around strangers. This has been particularly noticeable during the pandemic. When you arrive, one of the first things I do is assess how your child reacts to me. Some children have no problems interacting with me and others are immediately leery. Sometimes we can dive right into the session, and other times we might spend the first 10-15 minutes playing on the floor, letting them adjust to me and their new environment. Please know that your child’s comfort and happiness is of top importance.
What if my child is sick before the session?
A healthy child is a happy child! Please let me know within 24hrs of your session if your child is sick, has a runny nose, or cough, so we can reschedule your session. Since I work very closely with newborns and other children, I need to be extra diligent in protecting my other clients.
All that sounds great, what do you need from me to book a session?
First, contact me so we can set a date for your session. Once that has been determined, I will require a non-refundable deposit to reserve your session date and rate. The invoice will be sent to you via email and can be paid online with a debit or credit card. The remaining balance of your contract will be due on the day of the session.
WILL THE CAKE BE PROVIDED FOR THE 12-MONTH BABY MILESTONE SESSION?
No we do not provide the cake.
Can you include parent and/or sibling shots?
At this time, milestone sessions are for the child only. Parent and siblings are not included.
AGES & STAGES
3-5 MONTHS
At this age, baby spends much of their time photographed on their backs. I will change setups and outfits often to get some variety. If baby is willing, I will also try to pose on their belly and safely propped in a sitting position.

6-10 MONTHS
I will feature baby sitting on their own, pushing up, and maybe even crawling.
Some clients choose to wait until baby is sitting well to schedule their session, and others prefer to capture them at a specific age. Choose what works best for you.
